Ian Cathie

Ministry Center Director, Australia

Ian Cathie’s background in pastoral ministry, leadership and teaching equips him to work as the Ministry Center Director of Australia training leaders in China, Mongolia and the South Pacific.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Ian graduated with first class honours from the Baptist Theological College of Queensland in 1977. After ordination by the Baptist Union of New South Wales (NSW) in 1981, Ian pastored Baptist churches in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Ian earned an MA in Theology at Pacific College of Graduate Studies in 1985.

From 1987 until 2002 Ian worked as General Manager of printing and packaging companies while serving in his local church as a preacher, chairman of deacons and in various teaching roles – especially with young adults.

In 2003 Ian took up a combined management/teaching position at the Bible College of Victoria. The teaching role expanded to include Old Testament, Theology and Discipleship. He was appointed Vice-Principal at the end of 2005. He is currently President of the College Council.

At the beginning of 2008 Ian commenced his position as Australian Director of Development Associates International, an international, interdenominational ministry focussed on developing Christian leaders in developing nations. This is consistent with Ian’s strong desire to work alongside people preparing for or engaged in Christian leadership in their own environment. His particular areas of focus are China and the Pacific nations.

Ian’s passion is to train Christian leaders in the will and ways of Jesus Christ. His confirmed major spiritual gifts are Leadership and teaching.
